April 04, 2019

Hera and Canelo are thrilled to announce that they will be working together on their first co-publishing project, launching the first police procedural series by bestselling UK thriller writer Rob Sinclair.

The D.I. Dani Stephens series, set in the West Midlands, sees Dani Stephens returning to the force after recovering from the traumatic brain injury that almost ended her career and being quickly plunged into a case that sees young women disappearing without a trace. The first book in the series, The Essence of Evil, will be published on the 12th September.

Rob is the author of the bestselling Enemy series and James Ryker series of espionage thrillers and his books have sold over half a million copies to date.

Keshini Naidoo, Publishing Director at Hera, said of the deal: ‘As soon as I read Essence of Evil, I absolutely knew this was a book I wanted to publish. Dani Stephens is a strong, resourceful, detective with a complex, heartbreaking backstory that will have readers eager to read future books in the series. The killer in Essence of Evil sent shivers down my spine and had members of the Hera team locking their door while they read… We’re absolutely delighted to be teaming up with Canelo to publish this book and using all of our combined experience to propel the Dani Stephens series to the very top of the bestseller charts.’

Michael Bhaskar, Publishing Director at Canelo, said: ‘We’ve been fans of Rob Sinclair for several years and always wanted to publish him: he writes intense and complex books that glue you to the page. We’re delighted to be working with our friends at Hera to take Rob to the widest possible audience.’

Rob Sinclair commented: ‘I’m so excited to be launching this new series, which has been in the works for some time, and I’m equally excited by the prospect of having not one but two fantastic publishers behind me and DI Dani Stephens. I can’t wait for readers to get drawn into Dani’s complex and disturbing life!’

Camilla Bolton, Agent at Darley Anderson Literary Agency, added: ‘Rob is an exceptional author and to have his new series as the first collaboration between Canelo and Hera is a very exciting and fitting opportunity. We are so excited for readers to become as addicted to Dani Stephens and The Essence of Evil as we are – she is a female lead to invest in and we cannot wait to see her and the series flourish.’
