Publishing Executive - expected salary £25,000 p.a. (full-time)

Since launching Hera Books in 2018, we’ve worked hard to bring commercial, bestselling, inclusive fiction to the market. Two years on, we now have a string of bestsellers and award nominations which we’re very proud of and we’re looking for a dynamic publishing executive to join our team.

This multi-layered role will encompass aspects of editorial, publicity, marketing and account management, so the ideal candidate will be hard-working, meticulous, organised and able to juggle many different tasks concurrently. We’re looking for someone forward thinking, with strong commercial acumen, new ideas and an awareness of the current market – if that sounds like you, apply here…

Previous experience is preferred but not essential. The successful candidate will have a working knowledge of Word, Excel and be able to pick up new systems quickly. This role will be working closely with the Publishing Director and the Managing Director.

Duties include (but are not limited to):

  • Booking freelancers for editorial tasks

  • Collating editorial schedules in conjunction with Publishing Director

  • Managing proofreads with freelancers and liaising with production

  • Reading direct and agented submissions

  • Writing artwork briefs and jacket copy where required

  • Checking page proofs and liaising with production to hit print deadlines

  • Clearing images with photo libraries

  • Liaising with freelance designers to manage artwork for ebook and physical copies

  • Creating graphics to be used on social media

  • Blog tour management

  • Attending retailer meetings and pitching new titles for promotions

  • Create monthly new releases information for retailers

  • Complete retailer grids for promotion submissions

  • Monitoring sales

  • Creating marketing assets and monitoring campaigns

  • Analysing and tweaking campaigns based on metrics

  • Updating the website with new releases

  • Liaising with authors and agents about acquisitions, editorial points, sales and marketing information and general updates

We are open about your background and experience, although you will ideally have some experience of editorial work, an eye for commercial fiction and can demonstrate both diligence and efficiency. But if you have a good eye for detail, an appetite to learn and a proactive can-do attitude, we want to hear from you. We are flexible on location, especially during a pandemic, but once things get back to normal the right candidate will ideally come into London on occasion.

Please apply with a covering letter and CV to lindsey@herabooks.com.

Closing date for applications: 2nd November 2020
