Hera signs two psychological thrillers from debut novelist, Ruby Speechley
Hera are delighted to announce that they have signed author Ruby Speechley for two psychological thrillers, acquiring WEL rights, including audio, from Jo Bell at the Bell Lomax Moreton agency. Ruby is a Faber Academy alumna and prolific writer whose work has been longlisted for the Lucy Cavendish College Fiction prize in 2018 and The Bath Novel Award, amongst others. She also won Best Opening Chapter at the Festival of Writing in 2017. Ruby’s debut novel, a chilling psychological thriller about a young woman who becomes a surrogate but finds that her act of kindness comes with devastating consequences, will be published by Hera in July 2019.
Keshini Naidoo, Publishing Director at Hera, said:
‘I was captivated by Ruby’s novel from the opening chapters – as a mother who knows how tough pregnancy can be, I am fascinated by the people who make this ultimate sacrifice for people that may well be strangers to them. Ruby has taken an emotive, difficult subject and wrought an utterly gripping thriller, one that I can’t wait for readers to discover in summer 2019!’
Ruby Speechley commented:
‘I’m absolutely thrilled to be working with Keshini and Lindsey and incredibly grateful that my debut has found the perfect home with Hera.’
Jo Bell said of the deal:
‘Ruby is such a wonderful storyteller and a very thoughtful author, I’m so excited that she has found the perfect partnership with Hera.’
