Our support for the Black Lives Matter movement

Like most people, we’ve spent the past few days looking in horror at the news reports coming out of America, as the murder of an unarmed black man, George Floyd, sparked necessary protests at the treatment of Black people at the hands of the US police.

We feel helpless and we feel angry. But we also feel inspired by the people using their voices, using their bodies, using their own safety for a greater cause, shining a light on systemic racism in the US, the UK and globally.

As a publisher who always strives for inclusivity in commercial fiction, as well as two women who recognise our privilege, the time is now to show our solidarity with the Black community.

To this end, Hera Books will be splitting 5% of our revenue for the month of June 2020 to www.communitybailfunds.com which divides donations between the bail-out funds for protestors across US cities, and the Stephen Lawrence Trust https://www.stephenlawrence.org.uk/about-us/ which aims to broaden the worlds of young people from disadvantaged societies through education and training.

It is our fervent wish that one day, these protests will not be necessary, that we will all live in a truly equal and fair society, but until then, we stand in solidarity with #BlackLivesMatter
